The interior of the tube wall is coated with lithium heparin or sodium heparin. Heparin is an anticoagulant that binds antithrombins, effectively blocking the coagulation cascade producing a plasma sample. Heparin tubes are used for determinations in clinical chemistry and Immunochemistry.
